Be steady and well ordered in your life so you can be fierce and original in your work. ~Gustave Flaubert

  • Hi,

my newsreader gave me a link to an older article from Fast Company Now about the founders of Despair Inc. who produced the nice poster in your recent post.

    http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/94/open_soul-assassins.html

Not as hilarious as Scott Adams's Dilbert but apparently they struck a chord in many people in the corporate world.

They also have something on consulting (my profession):

"Consulting: If you are not part of the solution, there is good money to be made prolonging the problem."

Funny, but I think this kind of cynicism can become destructive if left unchecked. Nothing is more useless than self-induced misery and bad mood. It gets even worse when it's spreading in a company or a group or a project.

(In the context of your blog it's something else though. I really like your kind of humor)

    "Highly-motivated" regards from Georg

  • Hello Georg,

I agree that cyncism left unchecked can be very destructive. As can be self-inducted misery and foul moods. In fact I tend to be very sensitive to the energy put off by others and so I have been known to avoid the negative person. With that said however, I believe that emotions/feelings are neither good nor bad. They just are, they exist. It is how we choose to act on and respond to these emotions/feelings that can be positive or negative, good or bad. In this we are responsible. Both to ourselves and to others. Attitudes can be contagious and bad morale can be fatal.

It might not be entirely apparent in this blog that I am silently wrestling with myself. And this poster was one that I found funny because it seems so appropriate to what I am struggling with. I can be somewhat hard on myself but I also enjoy laughing at myself from time to time.

I am glad that you enjoy my humor and take it in the spirit in which it is intended.

I am unsure if you saw that I responded to your comment from a while back. So I am hoping if you haven't that you will look back at it. I have set up my profile here so that you can easily reach me either through yahoo messenger or by e-mail.

    Take care
